Teddy Bear Sunflower Seeds

Sow Sunflower Teddy Bear seeds when the soil temperature hits 65°F. Germination occurs in 7–10 days. Plant Sunflower seeds Teddy Bear half an inch deep, 12–18 inches apart. Pay close attention to spacing, as crowding produces weak stems that fold during the first wind. 

Teddy Bear Sunflowers require 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Less than that and the plant starts stretching toward light, the stem gets leggy, and double bloom flattens out and loses the shape. Sunflower plant grows better in well drained soil. Waterlogged soil kills roots fAster than poor nutrition. Water deeply once a week. Daily light watering keeps moisture only in the top inch of soil, which produces shallow roots and weak plants.

After the first three to four weeks after germination, these plants became low maintenance. It is dwarf variety, so flowers don’t need staking. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers unless your soil is genuinely poor — too much nitrogen delays flowering by a week or two. For cutting, harvest when outer petals are fully open but the center dome is still firm and tight; that's when cut flowers last 8–10 days in a vase. To collect seed for next year, leave the last blooms on the plant until they dry out completely before harvesting.
