Mix Swiss Giants Pansy Seeds

Cold is your friend, as Pansy seeds for planting  germinate best between 45-65°F, which is the reverse of what most other summer flowers prefer. For Fall sowing, simply press the seeds into the soil and keep the medium lightly moist. Germination should occur in 7-10 days. For Spring sowing, a cold stratification period of 60-90 days will significantly improve germination rates. To avoid seeds clumping together, mix them with a small amount of dry sand before sowing.

Swiss Giant Pansy seeds produce plants that truly need full sun, but in the warmer climates, afternoon shade helps extend the blooming season, as direct sun after 2 pm will kill Giant Pansy plants quicker than anything else. These plants are not particular about the soil, but it needs to be well-drained and moderately fertile. Consistent watering during the first month or so after transplanting. Once established, Giant Pansy seeds handle short dry spells. Feeding with a balanced fertilizer keeps flowering strong. 

Deadheading is the single best thing you can do for an extended blooming season. Simply remove dead flowers before they produce seed, and it will continue blooming. Pinching leggy stalks in midsummer will help promote bushy plants. If you're growing in containers, be sure to monitor soil moisture more often as containers dry out much quicker than in beds, especially if you're exposed to wind. In Zones 7-9, a light layer of mulch will keep roots cool as temperatures increase later in spring.
