False Queen Anne's Lace Seeds

Sow False Bishop's weed seeds directly 1/8 inch deep in early spring once soil can be worked, or try late-fall sowing to let seeds overwinter and develop deep roots by spring. Germination takes 14–20 days at 60–65°F. For continuous bloom from early summer through fall, sow a new batch every 4 weeks until midsummer — each succession takes about 10–12 weeks from seed to flower.

Full sun is non-negotiable for dense, upright growth. Queen Anne's Lace seed germinates and establishes best in rich, well-drained soil; compacted or waterlogged ground causes root rot before the plant even gets moving. Water consistently during the first few weeks after germination. Once roots are established, reduce waterings, as mature plants are drought tolerant. Space plants 18 inches apart. 

Deadhead spent umbels to extend the flowering season, or leave a few to mature on the stalks to self-seed. Harvest fut cutting flowers bouquets when the umbels are just barely open. Cut them in the morning, and put them straight into a clean vase. Fresh laceflower stems last up to 10 days. For dried arrangements, hang stems upside down in a dark room immediately after cutting; darkness preserves the white color better than any chemical treatment.
