About

All Sorts Mix Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus) is annual flower mix that bring together a range of heights, petal colors, and head sizes in one packet: creamy yellows, deep burgundies, bronzed bi-colors, single-stemmed giants and branching multi-bloom types. Hardy in USDA Zones 2–11, it's genuinely one of the most adaptable flowering plants you can put in the ground. Beyond the visual spectacle, Sunflowers serve real purposes — cut flowers, edible seeds, wildlife forage, and a natural magnet for pollinators during the whole season.

How to Grow & Harvest

Sowing & Timing

Direct sow Mix Sunflower seeds after the last frost, once soil temperature sits reliably above 10°C (50°F). Plant seeds 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep. Spacing depends on what you want: 30 cm apart for dense cutting-garden rows, up to 60 cm if you're after plate-sized heads. Sunflower mix seeds germinate typically within 7–14 days. Don't rush it with indoor starts — Sunflowers dislike transplanting and sulk if their taproot gets disturbed.

Soil, Watering & Fertilization

Make sure your Sunflowers get 6-8 hours of full sun per day, otherwise they get leggy stems that flop in the wind. Plants can grow in average, well-drained ground.  Don’t add too much fertilizer or compost, as its excess pushes leaf growth at the expense of flowers. Water deeply once or twice a week rather than frequent shallow watering every day. Once established — around 30 cm tall — they handle dry spells better than most annuals.

Growth & Harvest

Stake the taller varieties early, as wind snaps stems at 1.5 m height if there's nothing supporting them. Deadhead spent flowers on branching types to extend their blooming period. For seed harvest, wait until the back of the head turns yellow-brown and the seeds feel firm; cover heads with paper bags to protect seeds from birds. Cut the whole head, hang it upside down in a dry spot for two weeks.

FAQ

Are Sunflower mix seeds non-GMO and heirloom?

Yes. The 525 All Sorts Mix Sunflower seeds KVITER offers for sale are non-GMO and open-pollinated. You can save seeds from your best plant, and sow them next year.

Can Sunflowers be grown in containers?

Not with this mix. It contains both dwarf and tall varieties, and the tall ones need open ground — containers restrict root development and the plants either underperform or tip over. For containers choose dwarf variety, like ‘Teddy bear’

What are good companion plants?

Cucumbers, squash, and corn do well alongside Sunflowers — the tall stems provide light shade for heat-sensitive crops in peak summer. Avoid planting near potatoes; Sunflowers are allelopathic and can suppress potato growth.

Can I order Sunflower seeds online?

You can order online at KVITER — all orders above $49 ship free. When you buy Mix Sunflower seeds here, you're getting open-pollinated stock that's been selected for a high germination rate.
