Mix Powder Puff China Aster Seeds

Start your China Aster seeds indoors six to eight weeks before the last frost. Sow no deeper than 1/8 inch — they need light contact with the soil surface to germinate properly. Soil temperature of 65–70°F (18–21°C) gets you sprouts in 7–14 days. Once the first true leaves show, thin to one seedling per cell — roots of this species dislike crowding early on and will result in weak, floppy stems.

Chinese Aster seeds require full sun. Six hours is the minimum; eight is where the plant actually performs. Asters need well drained soil, because their roots suffocate in standing water. Work compost into the bed before transplanting, or grow in raised beds if your native soil is heavy. Water at the base, not the leaves. Overhead watering invites powdery mildew. Deep water twice a week during the China Aster seeds establishment, then back off once plants hit 10 inches and let the top inch dry between sessions.
