Prairie Blazing Star Seeds

Liatris Pycnostachya seeds need cold stratification — skip this step and germination rate reduces by 30%. Wrap Prairie Blazing Star seeds in a damp paper towel, seal them in a bag, and leave them in the fridge for 4–6 weeks. After that, sow directly outdoors in early spring. Put seeds into the ground, but don’t cover them too much, as they need light to sprout. Soil temperature should be around 65–70°F (18–21°C) to get the best results. Liatris Prairie Blazing Star seeds germinate in 2–4 weeks. You can also sow seeds in fall, and they get cold stratification naturally. 

Prairie Blazing Star flower requires at least 6 hour of full sun a day. Plants grown in partial shade get leggy, flop over, and bloom poorly. Blazing Star flower grows in sandy, rocky, or average ground without complaints, but give it deep, well-drained, near-neutral loam and you'll see the taller spikes, thicker stems and denser bloom. Make sure your ground drains well, as plants don't like waterlogged roots. Water young plants regularly, and reduce watering once the Prairie Blazing Star gets established, as mature plants handle drought without issue.

After the first season, the Blazing Star flowers largely take care of themselves. Every 3–4 years, dig and divide the clumps in early spring before growth starts to keep strong flowering for a long time. Skip heavy fertilizer , as rich soil only pushes foliage and not flowers.
