Mix Tall Morning Glory Seeds

Tall Morning Glory (Ipomoea Purpurea) is a fast-climbing annual vine native to Mexico and Central America. It grows extremely fast, reaching up to 150 inches in a single season, covering fences and trellises. The Morning Glory of mixed colors, from deep purple and blue to pink and white, often featuring beautiful star-shaped markings. The blooms open at sunup and close by the afternoon. It's grown as an annual in USDA Zones 1-12, but is technically a tender perennial in frost-free Zones. Most gardeners treat it as a hard-working seasonal climber and let it self-sow for next year.

Tall Morning Glory plant requires at least 6 hours of direct full sun to bloom. Otherwise, you will get plenty of leaves and few flowers. Soil does not have to be rich, as in fact overly fertile soil encourages leaves instead of flowers. Well-drained and moderately dry soil should work very well. Water regularly until the vines are established and climbing. Once established, mature Tall Morning Glory flowers handle short dry spells. 

Space them 6-12 inches apart and give them something to grab immediately – a trellis, a fence, or even a piece of twine. Tall Morning Glory mix twine themselves – all you have to do is give them a nudge in the right direction the first week. While deadheading isn’t necessary, it helps keep the plant flowering instead of going to seed. But if you want seeds for next year – leave a few to dry completely on the vine.
