Mix Tetra Snapdragon Seeds

Start Snapdragon seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last expected frost for the earliest blooms, or direct sow outdoors once soil temperatures consistently reach 65–70°F. These are very fine seeds, so simply press them gently onto the surface of moist seed-starting mix — do not bury them, as Snapdragon flower seeds need light to germinate properly. Keep the growing medium evenly moist and maintain temperatures between 65–70°F; with the right conditions, seedlings emerge in 10–14 days. For more even seed distribution, mixing the tiny antirrhinum majus seeds with a pinch of fine sand before sowing.

Snapdragons perform best in full sun, receiving at least 6 hours of direct light per day, though they can tolerate partial shade — just expect slightly less vigorous blooming. Plant or transplant into well-drained, moderately fertile soil with a slightly neutral to mildly acidic pH (6.0–7.0); avoid heavy clay soils that retain excess moisture around the roots. Water regularly and deeply, allowing the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings, and always avoid waterlogging, which can cause root rot. Once established, these antirrhinum majus flowers are moderately drought-tolerant and will handle brief dry spells without losing their vibrant display. 

Pinch out the growing tips of young seedlings once they reach about 4–5 inches tall to encourage bushy, well-branched plants with more flowering stems. Taller Snapdragon plants may benefit from light staking or the support of neighboring plants in a mixed border to keep them upright during windy weather. Deadhead spent flower spikes regularly throughout the season — removing old blooms encourages the plant to push out fresh flower stems rather than setting seed. Feed plants monthly with a balanced slow-release fertilizer to sustain strong growth and rich petal color. As the season winds down, allow a few heirloom Snapdragon seeds pods to dry fully on the plant, then collect and store them in a cool, dry place so you can replant next year.
