Mix Bachelor Button Cornflower Seeds

Direct sowing is the right way to start Centaurea Cyanus seeds, as Bachelor Button flowers don't like root disturbance and sowing them in trays will cost you two weeks of stunted recovery time after transplanting. Sow Bachelor Button seeds ½ inch deep in fall (in Zones 6-12) or early spring as soon as soil can be worked. Cool soil will help germination. Under moist conditions, expect 7-10 days for sprouts. If sowing indoors, use peat pots and get them outside before seedlings grow taller than 5 inches.

Cornflower Bachelor Button Mix requires at least 6 hours of full sun, in shade stems get too tall and fall over before you can harvest them. Soil does not have to be rich - regular soil is fine. In fact, rich soil encourages foliage at the expense of blooms. Water regularly until established, then back off - Cornflower Bachelor Button is drought tolerant once established. Over-watering is much more likely to occur than under-watering.

Space plants 6-8 inches apart, as close planting cause powdery mildew. Remove spent blooms before they produce seeds and your plant will continue to produce new blooms. Feed lightly once a month with slow-release fertilizer. These are not high-maintenance plants, and don't require much attention.
