Long Purple Eggplant (Solanum Melongena) is a classic Italian heirloom vegetable — one of the oldest cultivated forms of Solanum Melongena. The fruit is slender, dark purple, and cucumber-shaped, reaching up to 9 inches long on upright plants that top out around 30 inches. Each plant yields 4 or more glossy fruits per season. It performs in USDA Zones 5–12, handles summer heat well, and — unlike many eggplant varieties — adapts to shorter northern seasons.
